The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThe date has been set for my right knee replacement surgery.
Very much subject to change, at this time it's scheduled for 8am on Tuesday, March 22. It'll take place at the Indianapolis V.A. Hospital.
It'll be a total replacement, my third. Two times on my left knee, and now the first time on my right.
I'm still hoping to get out of the wheelchair I've been chained to for almost six years now.

I'm rooting for a quick and full recovery.
I hope you can put that wheelchair away and let it collect dust.

(28,094 posts)What happened to your knees?
I've a badly torn meniscus in my right knee, happened several yrs ago and I refused surgery. I've a high pain tolerance and have been able to limp along until i recently pulled ligaments (yep, plural) in my left. I'm not a happy camper being unable to walk any distance with my pup. However, I'm lucky compared to your situation. Any advice for your luckier fellow gimps?
Wishing you the best outcome this time and good luck!

In my case, it was simply arthritis. I had to have my first replacement when I was just 42 years old. It ended a career in landscaping I really loved. But I got the operation and moved on. I'm now 60 and in spite of having been chair bound for a few years I still get out and about. The most important thing I do is a therapy workout at a fitness center three times a week. My legs may be in bad shape, but my upper body is just fine!

I think I see a future for you without that dratted wheelchair!
