*UPDATE* Bald and cold!

Last edited Thu Jan 21, 2016, 12:54 PM - Edit history (4)

Whoever said losing body heat out your head is a myth is WRONG! http://www.theguardian.com/science/2008/dec/17/medicalresearch-humanbehaviour.

Since shaving my entire head last Tuesday, I've been freezing my ass off. Usually I'm the hot one in the room. Right now I'm wearing a polar fleece top, a hoodie on top of that, a double layer of thick socks and thick sweatpants. I keep pulling my sleeves down over my hands to keep them warm. And I can't even imagine going outside, where it's been in the high 40s and 50s.

Wearing a hat or other head covering is out of the question as I have to keep my incision (18 staples sutures) dry and open to air. I've been compromising by pulling my hoodie up loosely to try and keep my neck, back of my head and ears warm. I have round 2 surgery on Wednesday when I get shaved again over my left ear, so I guess I'll have shave it all again to keep it even. After that, hopefully I'll be good to grow. I can't wait to get the okay to start wearing something on my head, I have a six-pack of cute Kingree bandanas I'm dying to break out. Not to mention the cabin fever...if I go out now I'll scare small children, I look like a female creation of Frankenstein.

I've never had anything against bald men, many are very cute and handsome. However, I'm just not cut out to be a baldy.

1st surgery went well, thank you for all the good thoughts!

Why it wouldn't when on the top of one's head escapes me. As one with good cold tolerance until well below zero degrees F (and I walk 7-10 miles daily, rain, shine, snow, sleet, ice, wind, whatever), I can say with assurance that it doesn't come from being foolish.

Stay covered/stay warm!

And that's the only reason I can think of as to why I'm so cold. Usually I wouldn't be wearing so many layers of clothing, especially indoors. I can't even imagine going outside at this moment, even though it's not that cold out.

I'm thinking the kind that go across the back of your neck, not across the top.

Just under Drs. orders to not wear them. Can't wait to get the okay to cover my head, whether I'm inside or out.

Which is another reason why you can't stay warm. Your body is working hard to repair itself. Avoid stress at all costs!!

*UPDATE* I had my 2d surgery, and all went well. Best of all my surgeon has given his blessing to wear head coverings! So I broke out my beautiful Kingree bandanas, and I feel much better now. I still have cabin fever, but the weather is going to be crappy, from rain to snow, for the next 2 days. Maybe by early next week I'll be able to get out a bit.

Thank you all for the good thoughts and vibes!

I'd cover it too when I went out in cold weather. At least with the shaved head you didn't have the hair getting all messed up by a hat.

I didn't stay with it because it was taking too long to shave every day and it didn't work as well with my body type. I was thinking when I have bariatric surgery I might shave it off again after I get down to my ideal weight just to see how it looks then even though my mom will probably throw a fit again. And if it doesn't work let it grow back then.
