3 Questions Will Immediately Increase Your Emotional Intelligence

http://www.inc.com/justin-bariso/these-3-questions-will-immediately-increase-your-emotional-intelligence.html

I discovered this brilliant strategy through an unlikely source. I was watching an interview with comedian and television personality Craig Ferguson, when he gave some very sage advice:

There are three things you must always ask yourself before you say anything.

Does this need to be said?
Does this need to be said by me?
Does this need to be said by me now?

Ferguson says it took him three marriages to learn that lesson.

Food for thought, for sure.

If you wouldn't say it, why would you post it?

Steve, thanks so much for sharing this info and starting this thread.

I just wanted to add a few more tips which I found useful when working on improving my emotional intelligence skills:

1) Observe highly successful people with high EI skills

2) Observe unsuccessful people who can't read other people's emotions at all

3) Observe your own behaviour

4) Every day reflect on what happened and how you could communicate with people better by understanding their emotions and responding gracefully.

5) Understand that EQ is more important than IQ

There is so much more to say. Here is a great article with more insights:

Hope this helps. I would love to hear more advice from more people on the subject of EI. It's really a life-changing material.

Roman
