I am fairly new to DU. How does the "Home" category work? Let me explain my experience

I am a Bernie supporter but have been kicked off the Hillary threads for an unreasonable reason, I think.

However, in the "Home" category are usually about 10 stories or so, five above and five below.

There are a variety of stories that show up about how badly Hillary is being treated and when I try to comment, in support of her, actually, I get a message that I am being blocked from the Hillary threads.

Too bad, I think, because then the people who single-handedly can block even innocuous posters can certainly control the message and put on memes that go unchallenged.

But my question is this: If I can't comment on a message, I don't want to see it. Otherwise, it's very irritating.

Any thoughts, suggestions? Thanks!!

Yours,

Akamai

6. So it is not possible to block the messages on the home page, even if I believe the messages

are stating things that I cannot even gently answer?

Certainly seems to give readers of the home page a possible incorrect sense of the "free-flowing" discussion they expect.

15. Set your bookmark for DU to the General Discussion or other page, NOT the Home Page.

Not sure why the Home Page doesn't respect our block lists, but that's how it is.

you just have to ignore what you see. If you hide the group you won't see anymore on the Latest Threads tab which is where I'd suggest you start.

I tend to scan the home page quickly when I log on and then go right to the Latest.

You go to the "Latest Threads" at the top of the page? I've never done that before -- I will give it a shot!

thanks!

You have to be really careful in the candidate forums. They were created as "safe havens" for supporters of that candidate and they will not tolerate even mild criticism in a lot of cases. That makes it really difficult to ask questions sometimes as the host might consider even relevant questions as criticism.

If you want to ask a question you're better off trying to put it up in GD-P. As long as you can handle the off the nut venom you might be able to actually get a direct answer in there somewhere.

If you look at the bottom of the About this Forum page for either candidate you can see that you're not alone.

8. Both the Clinton Group and the Sanders Group are highly intolerant of dissent

They are, IMO, echo chambers where ardent supporters (and Right Wing trolls) whip up the emotions of those foolish enough to pay attention to either group.

Unfortunately, trashing and hiding the groups do not filter the posts from the home page. So one has to simply look past those posts or avoid the home page.

9. Haha. To give you an idea of how intolerant it can be in those groups...

I'm a Bernie supporter and I've been banned from the Bernie group. I was just trying to keep things real which is apparently forbidden there.

Those two groups are insane.

I have already given them both too much attention with this post. LOL

my bookmark for DU is set to show me the forums and groups. From there, I can also see my see my subscriptions and then all the other groups at the bottom. I have to make an effort to click the Home button at the top to see it. Same for the Latest threads and the Greatest threads.
