The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI'm the one that was worried about a month ago about our Baby having Downs Syndrome
and possibly Trisomy 23. My Girlfriends tests came back last week 99.9 percent negative, baby is completely healthy. And the Gender is a Boy and he is due August 1st.

(25,816 posts)she said they told her about weird protein levels that could mean potential Downs Syndrome. They said it could also
mean she was pregnant with twins. It was twins. They were premature at 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 pounds, but are both
now 23 years old. The boy is 6'3", very buff and in the Coast Guard and the daughter is a college graduate.
Good news for you.

(15,220 posts)Good news, and may your family be happy and healthy!!!!
A friend of my daughter's just went through something similar to a degree. She actually went through IVF and learned somehow (I'm not privy to all the details) that the implanted embryo had the possibility of having some birth defects. They did an amnio, and the waiting was just horrible for them. Luckily, like you, all was well, and she just delivered a healthy baby boy.
Wishing you all the best...

(5,790 posts)I'll add this: while I'm glad your boy doesn't have DS, I'll share with you that my niece has it -- and it's by no means the end of the world. A challenge, to be sure -- but things have come a long way in the past 50 years.
