How about some music that's unlike any music you've ever heard?

Kaia Kater

I heard her new album today and was floored completely. Banjo player, but not really bluegrass, or anything really.

http://www.kaiakater.com check her out, someone doing new fresh music. Her album will slay you.

Make a youtube search of "Clawhammer banjo, sawmill" and you can listen to hours of that kind of stuff.

Or just search for any of these songs on a banjo:
Cuckoo
Shady Grove
Cluck Old Hen
Cold Frosty Morning
Sally Anne
Kitchen Girl
Walking Boss
Black Nag
Little Sadie
Pretty Polly

You're correct that it isn't bluegrass - it's an older genre which most people these days call old-time (clawhammer is the picking style, and sawmill is the tuning used in this song)

Anyway, thanks - As you may be able to tell, I love this style of music, and I hadn't heard her before. She's a great picker, and has a nice voice too.

Along similar lines, here's Abigail Washburn doing the old blues classic "Nobody's Fault But Mine."

It is really different, different than the videos. A Caribbean vibe. I can't post the new music because it don't exist yet, but will in May.
