2. That's a great performance!
I so wish I had been born earlier so I could have seen him live. He died when I was 10

6. the grand wazoo
Hi,
I was lucky to see him live 2 times. The first time, George Duke & Jean Luc Ponty were in the band, It was a great show. The second time I was able to sneak my camera in & I still have the slides from the show. The Grand Wazoo is my favorite album from him. |

10. Grand Wazoo is great.
That's what I love about Zappa, he could do jazz (Grand Wazoo, Hot Rats, Waka Jawaka), pop, classical (LSO, Yellow Shark), heavy metal, and doo wop (Ruben and the Jets), sometimes all on the same album. He was a musical genius.

12. This is illustrative of the George Duke contribution.
When I saw Frank's band it also included George Duke & Jean Luc Ponty. Well, Jean Luc at least two of the three times. Incredible stuff.

8. Too many and all for different reasons
But if I was forced, I might choose Zoot Allures, Bongo Fury, and Roxy and Elsewhere.
On edit, Cyberswede reminded me I should add Apostrophe. But I love them all and would add Joe's Garage, Shut Up and Play Yer Guitar and The Grand Wazoo. |

11. No love for Sheik Yerbouti?
I mean, the title alone!
![]() I almost got a chance to meet him. I was in NYC and had a friend who had connections in arty circles. I had developed a musical scale based on the Fibonacci series. (It's an Autistic thing. ![]() ![]() |

In no particular order.....Bongo Fury, The Grand Wazoo, Studio Tan, Joe's Garage, Zoot Allures, Waka Jawaka, Hot Rats................many others.
The following version retains more emphasis on the piano that I don't hear on subsequent versions. Even when the Youtube video descriptions say "original 1969 mix". |
