I'm experimenting with a product I bought from my local hobby shop that's supposed to simulate mud. If you mix it with water, it will look dried on, if you mix it with clear gloss acrylic it's supposed to look fresh and wet.

(9,898 posts)Thanks for the update. When do you think you'll be ready for the decals/unit graffiti?
On Edit, I take it the diamond shaped marking represents a battalion?

(66,286 posts)I loved it. Although I was a tank crewman when I was in the Army, I also drove a brand-new M113A3 for battalion operations for about a year. Terrific vehicle; loved it. Great handling, easy to drive, mechanically reliable.. Changing the track on it was a cinch. (Changing or repairing track on the M1A1 tank was a nightmare, anytime of the day or night...)
My dad hated the M113. He served in Vietnam and thought they were deathtraps. I told him Vietnam was the worst sort of terrain for the APC. I pointed out to him that the Israelis have been using the 113 (which they dubbed 'Zelda') for over forty years, and love it. He didn't care.
