Currently my favorite is muesli. I soak it in milk for about 20 minutes before eating, or you can soak it overnight for an even softer texture. My all time favorite is probably yellow corn stone ground grits, which when properly prepared is nothing at all like the paste-like hominy grits you get at most restaurants. I also love oatmeal either thick rolled or steel cut served with various dried fruits.

(57,283 posts)I love it in milk, but my digestive system has other ideas about that.
Hot cereal: grits of course. I settle for the microwave version. Yeah, not core. Deal with it.

(36,818 posts)The only time I don't is when I'm making a big batch of them. For a single serving it's one minute on high and four minutes on 50% power so they don't boil over. Less clean up, much faster, and the results are the same.

(12,132 posts)Cap'n Crunch Crunchberries. Followed closely by Peanut Butter Crunch.
As an adult, though, I am open to liking a wider selection of less-sweet cereals than I was as a kid. I used to love Frosted Flakes but I tried some for the first time in years a few years back and they were just gross. No idea if they changed the recipe or what - I don't believe it's because I'm older and my palette has improved because, like I said, I still loooooove Crunchberries. They just didn't taste right. I do now like Corn Flakes though. Straight up - milk, no sugar. Maybe a banana sliced up in there. I can eat Cheerios. I like most of the Chexes. Rice is my favorite though. I expect those are sweetened some though.

(12,633 posts)Same as Ralston's "Rice Biscuits" (a more generically priced version of Chex). Both are generally okay for people that are borderline diabetic according to my husband's doctor.
I use the Rice Chex instead of Rice Crispies when making a low sugar/low carb "crumble" topping for fruits or veggies. You can do both a sweet and a savory crumble.

Thanks, that's good to know. It's rare that the thing I like is the least bad thing for me lol. But I am trying to cut sugar way down - I already stopped drinking sodas, sweet tea and sugary coffee. But my body tricks me into eating sugary things sometimes. I crave carbs since quitting sugar drinks. Ice cream and cake are particular weaknesses.

(32,073 posts)Their "Mighty Tasty" is very good, too. I'm also a fan of grits and oatmeal, especially Bob's "extra thick." As far as cold cereals go, I love Kellogg's Bran Bud, and bran flakes.
