Luke Cage (spoilers)
Love the series. Love it. Mike Colter is fantastic in the title role, and the supporting cast is excellent. Love it. Love the series.
But...
Cottonmouth was far more interesting to me than Diamondback is, and I would have greatly preferred to see Stokes as the lead villain for the whole run. He was icy and intelligent and calculating, and there was a real sense that he had a dense web of schemes interwoven throughout Harlem and connecting with the larger MCU.
Diamondback, in stark contrast, seems like an angry strongman swinging a baseball bat at anything that moves. And his chief motivations--daddy issues & sibling rivalry--are hollow and simplistic.
They also spent several episodes establishing Stokes as a mob boss with a wide network of connections and operatives, with Diamondback a shadowy figure behind the scenes. Then Stryker shows up and seems to have a box of fancy bullets and two or three guys sort of on his side, and he smashes everything he can see with no greater apparent plan than to smash everything he can see. He would have served as an effective top-level henchman, complete with his super-suit and (his foreshadowed future), but I just don't buy him as the top-level villain.
Dillard is also terrific, and she likewise comes across as a brilliant schemer upstaged by Stryker and his magic bullets.
While I'm at it, episodes 9 & 10 really seemed to drag, as though the series had enough written for 11 episode but wanted to stretch it to 13.
Love the series, though. Love it.
