My boyfriend suggested I see a psychiatrist....

I've apparently crossed the line from depression to full on psychosis..... and that's a lot to take from a man who is diagnosed with schizophrenia..... though my red eyes, swollen throat, and bruised knuckles tell me he may be right.

I haven't been ME since November, and it seems to be getting worse. I could just not watch or read the news, or listen to NPR, and delete all my apps, but what would life be? Blissful ignorance? I just can't.

So instead I'm addicted to a masochistic lifestyle (and it might be killing me) just so my letters, emails, and phone calls are based in fact, not partisan hyperbole.

I watched the Mr. SCOTUS pageant, hoping* we would go for guns on the street instead of repealing R v.W and gay marriage, but lost that bet too.

Been listening to Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" on repeat and chain smoking. Can't even remember how to smile.

And I'm supposed to be the jovial one of us.....

* the lesser of two shit-shows, maybe

If you let this destroy you nothing is gained. And there is merit in seeking help if it has gotten this bad. We are all very upset but if it is taking away your quality of life entirely please do something to help you remember how to smile!

in a place like the DU. You're surrounded by like-minded souls who are also tormented by the reign of the fascist Cheeto. There are all kinds of posts in General Discussion suggesting ways you can be an activist. Do what you can. Accept that you can't control more than that. And just wait for the crash of the Donny Chump train. It's going to happen eventually, and it's going to be epic! That should really lift your spirits!

Edited for post script:

On second thought, I will take your advice. I'm declaring today a news-free day. No papers, apps, NPR...nothing. Won't even watch Trevor tonight. Only happy music and non-political comedy. If the world doesn't blow up today, then I can surely catch up tomorrow, after a goodnight's sleep. And if it does, not much I could have done in the state I'm in now anyway. This is going to be torture, but likely less so than the alternative........

The world isn't going to blow up.

First thing, what do you like to do? Read, walk, listen to music, watch movies/TV, whatever, do something you love and haven't done since this shit storm started. Look into meditation. It does help.

Second, not just one day, but at least for the rest of the week.

Next, do something positive for others. Make a contribution to ACLU or Planned Parenthood. Work a day at a shelter or at least take some food to one. Minimum, smile and wave. Chat with the store clerk. Remind yourself and others, not all of us are brutes.

Finally, put down those *ucking cigarettes. Better yet, throw them away. Along with all the other harm they're doing, they're screwing with your sleep patterns.

We will get through this. Peace.

Just took a long hot shower with a couple beers......haven't done that since I lived in the Outer Banks

Now I'm bingeing Captain Janeway rocking the delta quadrant wile drifting off. At least I hope.
I'm way too to meditate right now, but Star Trek is close, or at least a balm.

Also, need to turn of notifications. No more updates BBC! you too AP, and your buddy Politico. I'm taking some me time

My mom once told me that every so often we all need a good cry. I've felt the waterworks coming, but the dam has been too strong. Thank you so much for finally opening the flood gates, and thank you more for them being tears of joy and inspiration as opposed to rage and depression.

I think I can finally sleep now.

But it's a lot more fun.

Deep leaf audio. They have over 20 voices that read, and it's almost acted out. Alas, they can't "speak" the diagrams and illustrations.

Glad to meet ya.

I'm known as Omicron the Fortuitous, the Proselytiser. K.T.S.C., S.E.L.F., the Dean AND assistant* Head Janitor of the soon to be renowned university: D.U.E.E, (*apparently they have to trust you a lot before they give you the keys) and K.S.C.

That last title is not a bunch of bull, it's a Chao..... and it's tattooed on my back..... for safe "keeping".
Trust me, I earned it, and am still paying for it. I likely always will.

If your thinking of doing the same, don't. Or do...just know K.S.C. Comes at a forth diminutional cost.......

Always Pleased to chat with another Discordian. We're a growing/dying bit of weird fucks, but I'm sure we're making Tera a better place.

I hope the winds of Chaos are treating you

Hail Eris, All hail Discordian

Clean out a closet or a cabinet. Sort your socks. Organize your photos. Keep busy. Most important, turn off the TV.

I started stripping wallpaper. It's great for relieving stress. I put on oldies, and avoid the TV news. It's helping.

I go to a protest or write letters to lawmakers or just visit DU. It helps.

I hope you can find some peace fNord. As others have already mentioned, it may be in your best interest to step away from politics for a while.

I'm in a state of utter disbelief these days. I think we should be upset. I hear some people say that I should just "
chill". I don't think this is a time to chill. This is a time to be upset and to do something about it.
Sign up for MoveOn's teleconferences Sunday nights at 8:00. If you go to the website, they'll tell you how to go about it.
I wait for the phone to ring on Sunday nights at 8:00. They have some good suggestions about how to fight against this authoritarian regime.

For almost 12hours.... I did hear second hand that Ollie had been returned to the national zoo and I did catch Nina Hagen doing 99 luftballons. Ja, das zucken, aubr Ich liebe der Deutsche sprache, und das leid. Es ist sehr politisch, but it was from the Cold War, so it hardly counts. I guess. I hope...

Still not watching/reading the news, and in this household that isn't an easy task. They're (my Bf and his mom, and dogs, and many cats) ALL smart and actively informed here. Had to banish myself from the living room. Fortunately I still have Mr Roddenberry, E-Dub, Queen, and the original Muppets Movie soundtrack to keep me sane during my exile from the real world. Can you picture that?

I think my head is cooling, and I'll be writing a thank you list soon, but a very broad thanks to the DU community, THANK YOU for helping to pick me up when I was oh so down.

This is one of the few places full of good people, and the world surely need more of us in theses dark days
