Ok, we need a little fun - who are your latest celeb crushes?

The perfect way to just channel our inner teen and forget Trump for a bit. I haven't done a list in a while. I say if they seem to be Democratic/liberal or not and why. Repukes almost never make the list.

Actresses:

AnnaSophia Robb (yes, she has good tweets)

Yvonne Zima (yes, based on tweets and who she is following on Twitter)

Holland Roden (yes, because of her tweets)

Melissa Benoist (yes, because of her tweets)

Salma Hayek (yes, because of her general history with politics)

Kaley Cuoco (ok, she may be a Republican, but she usually stays out of politics. Cute enough to stay in for now)

Ashley Greene (not very political, but a post Election Day tweet was a positive)

Natalie Portman (yep, based on donations and general history)

Zooey Deschanel (yes, based on past political quotes)

Adrienne Frantz (not very famous recently but was one of my first crushes. She is a Democrat)

Emily Kinney (yes, based on her tweets)

Alyssa Milano (yes, was a Sanders supporter)

Sharon Case (supported President Obama, so I assume Hillary also)

Candice Accola King (yes, based on her tweets and support for candidates)

Singers:

Alison Sudol (except for a weird Ayn Rand fascination when she was young, she has been consistently progressive. Very active for the environment)

Michelle Branch (has wavered before but definitely dislikes Trump)

Christina Perri (yes, based on her tweets)

Rachel Platten (yes, was the performer on Hillary's campaign song, called "Fight Song&quot

Andrea Corr (her brother seems to be a goofy one politically, but she seems apolitical)

Carly Rae Jepson (she does good work advocating for GLBT rights)

Alicia Keys (yes, based on activism in the past)

Zella Day (yes, based on her quotes/tweets)

Kacey Musgraves (I do know she was not a Trump supporter and tweeted recognition of the Women's March)

There are more, but that is enough for this list. So who are your latest celeb crushes?

71. What were the chances?
Thu Feb 9, 2017, 12:54 PM
Feb 2017

Back in 1974, some nerd straight out of college in the USA is in a dark, crowded folk music night spot in West Berlin where he occasionally performs. He finds himself chatting to a girl from Münster who says she's leaving for China the next day, but the nerd from the States should meet her friend from the farm country of the northwest, near the Dutch border. The American nerd says, sure, where is she? The girl from Münster leans back, and this beautiful angel appears next to her. They strike up a conversation because the nerd from America has been struck by love at first sight and the beauty from the northwest is curious as she has never met an American before who spoke enough German to hold a conversation.

She had never been to the States before, hadn't (up to then) really even intended on visiting. I knew nothing whatsoever of the flat farm country of Germany's northwest, where most of the villages don't even speak German as their first language. Her home town (Quakenbrück) isn't even on most maps.

What were my chances? I think if I had been forced to make a bet, I would have taken my chances of winning Powerball as having better odds.

This quote from a movie by actor Slim Pickens (Louis Burton Lindley Jr.) sums up my feelings about my wife:

Ya know, if I's you kids what I'd do? I'd quit this runnin' around the country. Ya know, git a little bit a money together 'n, hell, buy a place 'n settle down 'n raise a family. I've been married for 35 years, same old gal; man she's a tough ol' hide. God dang, everything I am, I owe ta her.

We'll be married 35 years this Summer.

Feb 2017

We'll be married 35 years this April, but we were together 8 years before that. We just never found the time to go through all the paperwork for the formalities. Plus, there was always the question of where and when.

My brother rode in on his white horse to the rescue. I was in our Boston office in December, 1981, and he called me there to ask if I wanted to be best man at his wedding. I said sure, when and where? He said April, 1982 in northern Virginia, just outside of D.C. (where we grew up). I said absolutely, and I'd call up my girlfriend to see if she could make it. He said, "well if you're both gonna be there, why not make it a double?" I said, now there's an idea, I'll call you back.

Soooo, I call up my better half, who was in Germany, and told her my brother and his girlfriend (she is from Japan) were getting married, and would she like to be there. She said of course she'd come over for that. I then said that we were invited to make it a double wedding if she wanted. She said, sure, why not, works for me. Not the most romantic of proposals, but after 8 years, it wasn't exactly a thunderous decision, either. The wedding was held on neutral ground (the USA) in a neutral setting (a Unitarian church in Virginia), since my brother and I are not religious, and our wives' backgrounds were Catholic and Shinto Buddhist, respectively. There were a few Alice's Restaurant moments as far as the bureaucracy went, but the occasion looked like the United Nations, and we're still together.

The funny part was the parents' table at the reception and dinner. My parents spoke neither German nor Japanese. My wife's parents spoke neither English nor Japanese, and my brother's in-laws spoke ONLY Japanese. There was a lot of smiling and gesturing going on....

At ABC News, Muir has won multiple Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards for his national and international journalism.

Muir is one of the most visible journalists in America. According to the Tyndall Report, Muir's news reporting received the most airtime in 2012 and 2013.[2] TV Week has called him one of the "12 to Watch in TV News"[3] Muir was listed as one of People Magazine's Sexiest Men Alive in 2014.[4]

Personal life Edit

Muir was born to a Roman Catholic family[5] in Syracuse, New York[6] and grew up in Onondaga Hill. Muir has one older sibling, three nieces and one nephew. Muir graduated from Onondaga Central Junior-Senior High School in May 1991 and attended the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in May 1995.[7] While in college, Muir also attended the Institute on Political Journalism at the Fund for American Studies at Georgetown University and studied at the University of Salamanca in Spain.[7]

Career Edit

WTVH television Edit
From 1995 to 2000, Muir worked as an anchor and a reporter at WTVH television in Syracuse, New York. Muir's reports from Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Israel, and the Gaza Strip following the 1995 assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin earned him top honors from the Radio-Television News Directors Association.[citation needed] The Associated Press honored Muir for Best Enterprise Reporting and Best Television Interview.[citation needed] The Syracuse Press Club recognized Muir as anchor of the "Best Local Newscast", and he was voted one of the "Best Local News Anchors" in Syracuse.

WCVB television Edit
From 2000 to 2003, Muir was an anchor and a reporter for WCVB television in Boston, where he won the regional Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting and the National Headliner Award and Associated Press honors for his work tracing the path of the hijackers involved in the September 11, 2001, attacks.[8] The Associated Press also recognized his news-anchoring and reporting.[9]

ABC News Edit
In August 2003, Muir joined ABC News as anchor of the overnight news program World News Now. Starting in June 2007, Muir was the anchor of World News Saturday. In 2006, and occasionally thereafter, he co-anchored the newsmagazine Primetime. In February 2012, Muir became anchor for the weekend newscasts, and the broadcast was named World News with David Muir. Muir has been silently credited with a rise in the ratings of the weekend evening broadcasts.[10] In March 2013, Muir was promoted to co-anchor ABC's 20/20 with Elizabeth Vargas.

In September 2005, Muir was inside the New Orleans Superdome as Hurricane Katrina hit, and stayed in New Orleans to report on the unfolding humanitarian crisis. Muir's reports revealed and highlighted the deteriorating conditions inside the Convention Center and Charity Hospital, as Muir and his photographer waded through chest-deep waters for blocks to find patients trapped inside the hospital.[7]

Muir reported from the Israeli-Lebanon border in October 2006 on the Israeli war with Hezbollah. Muir was in Gaza in March 2007 to cover the Hamas coup, reporting from inside the Gaza Strip.[7] In October 2007, Muir was dispatched to Peru after the worst earthquake hit that country in more than two decades.

In September 2008, Muir reported from Ukraine, more than two decades after the Chernobyl nuclear accident. In April 2009, David Muir and Diane Sawyer reported a 20/20 hour about guns in America getting "disturbing results" as described by the New York Daily News.[11]

In May 2009, Muir's reporting on 20/20 revealed a significant increase in the number of homeless children in America. Muir made multiple trips to the Gulf of Mexico to investigate the BP oil spill. In April 2011, Muir reported from Haiti after the hurricane, and returned to report on the attacks against women.[7]

In June 2011, Muir reported from Tahrir Square during the political revolution in Egypt, and from Fukushima, Japan following the deadly tsunami and nuclear power plant accident. Muir wrote about his reporting from Mogadishu, Somalia, and his subsequent return, "Inside Somalia's Crippling Famine", for the Daily Beast.[12] Muir also anchored several hours of the tragedy in Newtown as it unfolded, and then reported from the scene as President Obama visited the town. Muir also reported from the movie theater mass shootings in Aurora, Colorado; from Joplin, Missouri in the aftermath of a destructive tornado; and from Tucson, Arizona after the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords that left six others dead.[7]

In November 2012, Muir served as one of ABC’s lead correspondents for the 2012 U.S. Presidential election. Muir's interviews with Republican candidate Mitt Romney[13] generated national headlines on the issues of economics and immigration policy in the United States.[14] Muir's Emmy-nominated Made In America series on the American economy is a continuing feature on his broadcast. Muir has brought the series to other television programs, including ABC's The View, where he has served as guest co-host.[15]

In January 2013, Muir reported from inside Iran, leading up to the nuclear talks.[16] Muir was the first Western journalist to report from Mogadishu, Somalia on the famine.[17] Muir and his team came under fire while reporting from Mogadishu. In 2013, he received the Edward R. Murrow Award for his reporting.

On June 27, 2014, ABC News announced that Muir would succeed Diane Sawyer as the anchor and managing editor of ABC World News. Muir made his debut broadcast on September 1, 2014. In April 2015, "World News Tonight with David Muir" became the country's most-watched evening newscast, outpacing NBC Nightly News for the first time since Sept. 7, 2009.[18]

Community life Edit

Muir delivered the commencement address at Ithaca College in New York in May 2011, during which he urged graduates to use their voices.[19] On March 13, 2015, Muir received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree and the Jessica Savitch Award of Distinction for Excellence in Journalism from Ithaca College.

On May 8, 2015, Muir delivered the commencement address at Northeastern University in Massachusetts. During the ceremony, he was given an honorary Doctor of Media degree.

She's been gone many years now, having died an old woman.

She is the real discoverer of nuclear fission and I think everyone now realizes that when she didn't receive the Nobel Prize, it was an injustice.

Science has made it up to her by naming an element after her, she was definitely one of the great physicists of the 20th century.

I wrote a little paean to her almost ten years ago, based on Ruth Simes' fine biography which young people interested in science should read:

In fact the actress-named-Allison category is pretty well populated (Mack, Hannigan, Janney, Scagliotti), though the last would definitely be in the too-young-for-me category.

I have always liked her. When I do my next list (I rarely update and post them anymore), I will consider additions.

One of the greatest athletes of all time, dedicated family man, great humanitarian. Extreme hottie, as well.

It is more his stunning acting chops at turning a completely horrifying character in season one of Bloodline to a sympathetic one when the perspective was switched in season two.

But yeah, looks don't hurt. He strongly resembles Gary Oldman. Whom I have long crushed on.

On edit - Thank you for the heart!

Yeah, pretty bad that I find him attractive in the role of a serial killer. I've never seen the Fifty Shades shit, but I loved him so much in The Fall that maybe I'll watch it someday. I read one Fifty Shades book at the recommendation of a bunch of friends years ago and I thought it was a piece of crap though.
