I'm concerned that it will be a 125 minute film of which 100 minutes will involve the run-up to, the participation in, or the aftermath of the Kessel Run. Of the remaining 25, 10 will be Han & Chewy meeting & becoming BFFs, and the other 15 will be the card game in which Han won the Falcon.

(63,200 posts)As you note, it's his whole backstory. If they show it, it's hard to believe that they would do it justice. Better to leave it vague and mysterious and legendary, as it's been for 40 years.
Otherwise we risk running into another nightmare akin to the one in which Li'l Vader waxes poetic about the unpleasant texture of sand.

I like how they mentioned offhandedly it in EPVII, though even there it was close to being too much.
I fear that if they play it out onscreen, they'll use it as a gimmick, a way to say "See, fans? We love Han Solo!" I can't help thinking of Indiana Jones & The Crystal Skull. In that execrable film, the fleeing Indy accidentally (and unknowingly) shatters the crate holding The Ark, and it's played for laughs. That's right, one of the most powerful artifacts in all of creation, and the driving force of the first film, is treated like a throwaway gag in a terrible movie.
Granted, Lucas is to blame for that, but it makes me nervous about how studios treat the history of Harrison Ford-based characters!
This will also be true if Ridley Scott perpetuates the sad delusion that Deckard is a Replicant...

(56,828 posts)The Kessel Run was one of the most heavily used smuggling routes in the Galactic Empire.[4] Han Solo claimed that his Millennium Falcon "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs". A parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Solo was not referring directly to his ship's speed when he made this claim. Instead, he was referring to the shorter route he was able to travel by skirting the nearby Maw black hole cluster, thus making the run in under the standard distance. By moving closer to the black holes, Solo managed to cut the distance down to about 11.5 parsecs.[source?] The smuggler BoShek actually beat Solo's record in his ship, Infinity, but without cargo to weigh him down. A few months later, Han Solo beat both his own and BoShek's records in a run he made with Luke Skywalker.[3]

Kinda like Snake Pliskin whenever someone says, "I thought you were dead."

(63,200 posts)AFAIC, they can start two minutes after the Run, because. of his entire history, the actual Run is probably the least interesting.
Give us something new, rather than simply fleshing out 40-year-old news.
