(57,290 posts)Is that about the Storm of the Century, in March 1993?
1993 Storm of the Century

(130,728 posts)Not QUITE storm of the century!
'Last winter, the official biggest snowstorm in D.C., as measured at Reagan National Airport, didnt occur until March. It was a terrible winter if you were a snow lover because no snowfall of greater than 1 inch occurred near downtown D.C. from December through February. Then, on March 25, 1.4 inches of snow fell, which was quite unusual for so late in the season, especially for a winter that was relatively snow-free.
This winter, something even more unusual and incredible happened. On March 16-17, 7.2 inches of snow was recorded at National Airport which bested this years previous high mark of 7 inches which occurred in the mid-February snow event. Even more impressive, Dulles Airport reported 11.1 inches of snow with the storm.
Our mid-March snowstorm was also one of the biggest storms on record for so late in the season, dropping more than five times the normal snow for D.C. during the whole month. In addition, it really didnt seem like a March snowstorm because the snow was rather dry and fluffy and it did not quickly melt following the storm. It seemed more like a mid-January snowstorm.'

(4,940 posts)Y'all are getting it way worse that we did all winter. Snowed a lot, we have about 11', and it keeps on keeping on but we're used to it, even after the little bit of rain and melt 3 weels ago. But the snow is dry, and there's basically NO wind here, so we just send the nasty stuff to the Lower 48!
I'm lucky in my friends - all who are from the East Coast had the sense to prepare. AND the guts to cuss me out for the Arctic Express!

(204,728 posts)We've been known to have blizzards as late as April or May. And we had a real doozy last October, lots of wet snow that brought down trees because they still had all their leaves and the ground wasn't frozen yet. And just today there were such strong winds - up to 60 mph according to the local TV news - that there were power outages. The joys of living in the North Country - but I still don't envy you your weather...

(204,728 posts)We do have two or three months in the middle of the year, though that doesn't necessarily prevent hail! I envy the weather for those those on the West Coast or in the Deep South, but that's been changing, and they have their own issues, like earthquakes and tornadoes! At least you can learn to get used to snow...

(4,940 posts)to the old Horton "Springtime in Alaska"............. it's only 31 below, not 40, but what the heck...........
Not much slows us down! (It was only 22 below for the March.) We got more snow last week, which is good - the Iditarod starts here on Saturday (not enough snow or frozen rivers/lakes in Southcentral).
In like a lion, for sure!
