I guess we aren't counting the likes of Colbert and Oliver?

When I think up stand of comedy I think of Carlin. A dead Carlin is funnier than most living comedians.

Lewis Black, Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey, Kate McKinnon, David Letterman

Can women be funny? Not even a question - women ARE funny.

Granted, these three don't do your usual stand-up, but they are brilliantly funny comedic writers and actors.

He was a major part of the movie "The Aristocrats"..which shows how he reacted to shouts of "Too soon" when he told a 9/11 joke a couple of weeks after the 9/11 attacks.

It was at a Comedy Central roast of Hugh Hefner.

Gilbert said he was trying to get a direct flight to New York, "but there would be a stopover at the Empire State Building."

her wit is so quick and offbeat

Colbert
John Fugelsang his stuff is so intelligent
Sam Bee
I think Jimmy Kimmel is a great quick wit but honestly have only seen a little of him.
And people will hate me, but all his personal stuff aside Woody Allen has been one of the best for a long time

I especially love all the sketches that have old ladies in them.
(Their "old lady" voices are hilarious!)

Even though George Carlin & Robin Williams are gone....I still love them...(and miss them)

Sarah Silverman
Amy Schumer
Jim Gaffigan
Louis C. K.

and a ton of honorable mentions like Dave Attell (his stand-up is ok and I usually laugh but I'm a fan because he is a nice guy in person. My wife met him at an airport gift shop and he was just really nice and funny and generous and humble to her and, by extension, that's cool with me.)

Paula Poundstone, Nikki Glaser, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (together or separate), Patton Oswalt is terrific, Eddie Izzard, I never think he's gonna but Brian Regan always makes me laugh, Dave Chappelle is great too.

And Ron White. I don't care about any of the other Blue Collar comedy dopes he used to tour with but Ron White is a funny emmereffer.

Norm MacDonald is kind of anti-comedy comedy. His delivery kills me. I'm still not sure if he's right-wing douche-bag or just trolling them but until such a time as I find out he voted for trump he's making me laugh.

I haven't seen Steven Wright do anything in a long time but he always used to make me laugh.

I'm still a huge fan of Andy Kaufman.

I remember him one time on SNL where he brought 4 or 5 members of the audience up on the stage and had them do lip syncs of barnyard animals to a record he had playing of '"Old MacDonald's Farm"...It was absolutely hilarious!

All of them are on YouTube.

Dara O'Brien
Jimmy Carr (warning: NOT for everybody!)
Lewis Black (not British, but he's one I'll go out of my way to see)
Alan Davies
Lee Mack
Jo Brand

If you like rapid jokes and repartee, search for these on YouTube:
Would I Lie to You
and
QI Stephen Fry
- Clips of these shows are like an epic battle of the comics
