Babies videobomb BBC interview

{I can't link to it here. It will probably show up on YouTube.}

Anyone with toddlers will sympathise with this experience.

Two children videobombed their father's live interview on BBC News on Friday morning.

Professor Robert Kelly was speaking to BBC News about the political crisis in South Korea when there was an unexpected interruption from his children who were keen to share the spotlight.

As Professor Kelly described the region's geopolitics, a little girl in a yellow jumper opened the door and sauntered into his office.

She made herself comfortable next to her dad, as he valiantly continued his analysis.

The baby bursting into the BBC interview is pretty good, but I still think this is the greatest of all time

little girl away was terrible. Then the mom came in and pretty violently removed the kids from the room. That was equally appalling. If he had any warmth at all he should have just said to the interviewer, "Excuse me", and picked his child up and carried her out of the room. He would have come across as a much more caring father.

2. Parenting is a stressful job. Parents don't always get it right.

Especially when kids do something unexpected.

Our kids were runners; take your eyes off them for an instant and they were gone. Our youngest was so good at darting into dangerous places or getting lost that we resorted to a leash. People who were critical of that have no idea what it was like.

Bad parenting would be if he hit the kid. What I saw was a parent who was a little slow shifting his attention from serious conversation to the unexpected entrance of the child. No big deal, it's funny.

The look on his face was priceless and then the howling out in the hallway after they were quickly ejected from the room was hilarious. Everyone who has had children knows how these things happen, especially now when it is entirely possible to do business online from home. Interruptions like what happened are probably more common than you think.

5. It was the mother, not the nanny. Why are people calling her a nanny?

Is it because she's not white?

(The professor is married to a woman of Korean descent.)

I think he was simply trying to nudge the kid out of the frame, so he could continue the interview. But of course everything was in the frame.

4. If you're going to do a live interview on camera, why not do it somewhere without your kids?

Seems unprofessional to me.

No, she is not white.
Yes, she is Asian.
No, she is not the nanny.

The inherent racism of assuming the Asian woman in the video is the household help (because she is Asian) is quite disconcerting. But I see that assumption repeated everywhere, on multiple news site comments and on Twitter.

I first noticed it on various newspaper comment sites. And then on Twitter. It's funny to see, because there are so many powerful and even dominant Asian women in the US. (And Korean women especially so.)

Let's hang a map.. and put a white tablecloth with books so it'll look all professional n shit.

He put so much effort into hanging the map with care to make sure it was perfectly level, he even ironed the tablecloth.. and everything was ruined because the door has no lock.

And that moment when he face palms his precocious progency you can see his soul -- break in half..

:p
