Low Notes! Favorite bassists (then and now)

Then: I love Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead. The most melodic of bassists. He is still out there playing with everyone. Some of his projects post Jerry were truly incredible with surprising band configurations and players (Ryan Adams, Joan Osborne, Jackie Greene among others.

Now: Les Claypool. Guy is amazing. Plays with Primus as his primary but also plays with many others including an acoustic show.

She is a total badass.

I'm also a big fan of John Paul Jones, Lemmy, the guy who plays stand-up for the Reverend Horton Heat, Geddy Lee, Bootsy Collins and probably hundreds of others...

John Myung, Chris Squire, John Wetton, Tony Levin, Jeff Berlin, Jaco.

For upright players, Danny Thompson is the man.

Hard man. Can still, I hope, work with him, though.

(I'm working in music production, now).

Chicco Parisi (Naples, Italy), bass
Miguel Garrido Prada (Santa Clara, Cuba), keyboard
Marco Fernández Carrascosa (Tenerife, Spain), soprano sax
Leo Olivares (La Habana, Cuba), drums.

Don't laugh, but I've just recently discovered the Beatles.

I was an 80's kid, and GenX was very anti-Boomer music, so I was never really exposed to the Beatles.

I've come to admire them, and Paul did some really interesting bass work in the later Beatles era.
