I just finished watching every movie that has won the Oscar for Best Picture

Top 10 Favorites:

10. Patton
9. All Quiet on the Western Front
8. The Last Emperor
7. Argo
6. The Silence of the Lambs
5. Casablanca
4. Lawrence of Arabia (The Blu-Ray of this is absolutely mesmerizing.)
3. No Country For Old Men
2. The Godfather
1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

The 10 I disliked the most:

10: Cimarron (Ugh.)
9. Going My Way (This beat out Double Indemnity?)
8. The English Patient (Boring.)
7. Oliver! (This beat out Lion in Winter?)
6. Out of Africa (Boring, and casting Redford as a British big game hunter is as ridiculous as casting Sir Laurence Olivier as General MacArthur or Kevin Costner as Robin Hood.)
5. Terms of Endearment (Boring.)
4. My Fair Lady (This beat out Dr. Strangelove?)
3. Birdman (Really? This beat out Whiplash?)
2. Chicago (This beat out Two Towers, The Pianist, and Gangs of New York?)
1. The Greatest Show on Earth (It's just a bunch of circus footage with a piss poor plot and Charlton Heston yelling at random people in between.)

The top five movies that I thought I wouldn't like, but ended up enjoying.

5. (tie) Amadeus and Crash (Crash isn't a bad movie, it's just nowhere near as good as Brokeback Mountain was.)
4. Gandhi
3. The Life of Emile Zola
2. Wings (I'm usually not much for silent films, but this one was pretty tight.)
1. Gigi (The somewhat creepy opening number notwithstanding.)

...to watch them all... I find the Oscars are one of the least accurate of all the Movie Awards. They have become the most respected, though. I think they were able to build their rep with publicity and TV deals during the 1950s. The Greatest Show on Earth, since you mentioned it, illustrates some of Oscar's problems. Perfect "Oscar Picture" - but awful film.

The most over-rated actor ever. He always over acts. ALWAYS!

but I liked Birdman a lot. But I'm a Michael Keaton fan from way back so there could be bias.

I have no opinion on which should have won (of those two or the other nominated movies that year).

I do love or like all the movies on your liked list that I've seen so I should probably check out the ones I've missed (4, 9 and 10)

which is weird because I watched every episode of Frasier - I loved Cheers and I liked Frasier but mostly because, like Niles, I was in love with Daphne. (She and Betty are why I watch Hot in Cleveland too lol)

I'll have to look for that ep.

and I am really surprised we haven't yet because we are all J.K. Simmons fans and I do like Jazz enough to watch a movie that features it. I'll add it to my queue for Movie night. (Me,wife and daughter have movie night every Friday with a friend of ours and we rotate picks so my night is coming soon. The only rules are you can't complain about anyone else's pick and you can't play on your phone during the movie).
