Old Roosters

Any chicken people here? I have some ancient chickens, probably 13+ years old now, that I raised from chicks. I had one little Japanese bantam who's eyes just started closing, and he finally just gave up on keeping them open. I could give him water, but couldn't make him eat. I just figured it was his time. Now, I have a golden Seabright that is doing the same thing. This is not showing up in any of the other old birds, or the young laying hens. At least not yet.

Any ideas? Its really too bad that the Rural/Farm Life group is kaput.

Then do what you feel moved to do.

I would personally consume them, but totally understand and have sympathy for those who would not even consider it.

My father always taught me that the ultimate responsibility we have with animals we own is to insure they do not suffer. That went with the consumable animals the same as the pets.

And sorry to hear that. I can be a insensitive at times, but losing a life that has been with you so long is never easy.

I had trouble coming back, too, but just wasn't up to starting over. Welcome back!
