A couple years ago our neighbor had a dog they named Tula.
She was an adorable and sweet pup. So bright and vivacious. One day a coworker who lives next to them told me that they were going to get rid of the dog and asked me if we would take it. I talked Paul into it and we became the proud parents of Brownie. The neighbor said that the kids weren't interested in the dog and that they had no time for it.
Fast forward a few months and they end up adopting 2 Chihuahuas.
Today as I was walking to the house she opened up her car window and asked...wait for it...if we wanted a Chihuahua.
I wanted to slap her so hard.

(6,011 posts)Write the name & number down, give it to her and say, "I guess you've learned your lesson, eh?"
Kids probably whined for a dog but two makes too much work for her, or the dogs don't get along?

(78,249 posts)California has such a massive oversupply of chihuahuas, due to the fad created by Paris Hilton , that we've had to ship them all across the country to find homes for them all.

(12,272 posts)I generally think it is because they fail to realize that pets are real, living things and they require understanding and love. Brownie is a cutie.

(30,947 posts)I have one and all they do is yap at anything that moves outside. Plus, they tend to be vicious. I had a Rottweiler (who I had to send to doggie heaven in 2010) and she was the sweetest dog you could imagine. But the Chihuahua will attack anyone who comes into my house. I have to lock her in another room whenever anyone comes to the door.

(70,494 posts)I never thought I would have little dogs. My main dogs have been cocker spaniels - so smart, so energetic and playful, so loving. I think the bottom line is that dogs are dogs, all in the universe of lovability but individually well "individual."
This little girl has a mind of her own, but would lick my face the longest I would let her. She has never attacked anybody and her mouth is so small it couldn't get itself around a finger. For some unknown reason she has developed a fear of the pupperoni treat sticks, that is, she loves them but getting her to take them holding them out to her makes her skittish.
The yapping (for her) only happens not so very often.

(30,947 posts)But at 5 months old, she became a total wild child. I sent her to Puppy Boot Camp at Man's Best Friend for two weeks. When I got her back, she was an attack Chihuahua. I don't think she ever forgave me for sending her away.

(27,630 posts)I'm assuming she's a young adult now? She was lucky to get you, since it sounds like they were irresponsible pet owners, who probably never bother to train their pets.
Somebody else will adopt the chihuahuas, I'll bet. Small dogs get adopted easier.
