Licorice. It's probably been 20 years since I've seen it anywhere for sale. I've made it a few times, it's just vanilla with some anise extract or oil added. If you want to get really fancy, you can put in very finely diced or shredded licorice candy, too. The black food coloring is optional, since its just for appearance, tastes the same even if its white.

It turned my tongue black. I love it too, about the only ice cream I will buy from a shop. I might try your recipe.

*Friday Harbor is a town in San Juan County, Washington, United States. You might know this already, but it makes me feel better to put it here.

I can only find this at my local Kroger store here in North Georgia. It is guilt-free because it is sugar-free.

I do like some of the premium vanilla brands like Haagen-Dazs, but generally I'm just too damn cheap to buy something I can make myself for a lot less.

It's a pale "smurf" blue and it tastes like nuts and pineapple. Some people say it tastes like Fruity Pebbles, but not really. Very rare to find it anymore
