I know dvds are going the way of the dinosaur. I watch lots of movies and will get my money's worth in no time. Really cheap too. Much less expensive than the first one I had. Larger screen too.

(4,338 posts)I was in Hong Kong waaaaaay back in the early 80's and electronics back then there was literally dirt cheap.
I remember buying a stereo there for a little over $200, sony, double cassete, aut reverse etc etc(remember the erarly 80's?!?!)
Anyway, when I found the same stereo back home in Canada it was something like $600.

(4,056 posts)And also, as a techie junkie, I've found it's better to get the NEXT best thing. Usually, when they release the latest version, it takes awhile to work out the bugs. But if you buy the version just before it, the price has gone down and most of the problems have been solved.
I got the IPad 2 32 Gig WiFi only for $499 at Best Buy.

it's used (but new enough it had windows 7) to replace my desktop that quit allowing me to access the interned. It seems fine otherwise but somehow I have no "ports" or something incomprehensible to me. so here I am with a nice portable laptop still tethered to a dial-up modem.

(32,080 posts)The joys of being out of work long-term and fucking broke. Everything electronic I have is OLD, except for my iPod. I found out here that there was a recall on the first gen Nanos, of which I had a hand-me-down. I sent it in. They sent me back a 6th generation unit.
Oh, and a cell phone. I got one of those Net10 phones, as my car is also ancient. Don't want to get stuck somewhere.

(60,010 posts)from a very dear person, otherwise I probably would not have gotten one at all.
Now I wonder how I got along without it, having freed up a whole wall of bookspace.
With the free app Calibre, any book format can be converted into the epub format that Nook uses,
so I actually have been able to expand my e-book library, most of them for free. Have about 2,000 ebooks
in a file waiting to be loaded and read in Nook.

I love it: Internet surfing, games, books, e-mail and probably a hundred things I have yet to discover.

(21,046 posts)I got bunches of em and so does hubby the electronics genius. You use your software to take out snap crackle and pop, and convert to a WAV file and burn CDs.
I LIKE CDs. I refuse to get an iPod. I like full 44.1K digital stereo instead of squashed MP3s.
So call me old fashioned.
I'm so old that I remember that if you were really hip musically you had a reel to reel tape recorder.
I had one in high school, and a component stereo that still works, with a Marantz receiver.
