The angel Gabriel is helping.
God: How many more animals to go?
Gabe: 2
God: How many legs we got left?
Gabe: 100
Centipede: DIBS!
Snake: Asshole.

So when the snake was created he apparently had legs, but they were taken away for what he did in the garden of Eden.

I've always wondered how many legs he had when he was created.
