Listen, I understand the power of nostalgia, but can we admit some old songs are just bad?

If you go to Youtube for any given song over 10 years old, you'll inevitably run across a slew of comments claiming "They don't make music like this anymore!"

That may or may not be right if you consider what song or musical artist/band you are talking about.

There are songs that are timeless classics and perhaps far better than the average song today.

But there are also lots of older songs that are just plain bad.

I mean bad.

Bad as in they ought to be forgotten.

Forever.

Just for example, I came across Will 2 Power's hit single, "Dreamin'."

And I'm sorry, but it's just a bad song. It's the epitome of 80s cheese, with harsh synth beats and trite lyrics.

But in the comments section, there are people who swear up and down that "Dreamin'" is a great song, that it is a classic, that it takes them back to the day, that today's music just doesn't measure up to "Dreamin'."

Can we please just draw a line as to what is and is not a classic song that ought to be remembered for years to come?

I won't admit which ones though. Might start a lounge fracas.

Booze everywhere. Water splashed from the hot tub. Weed getting wet. Ugly. Truly ugly.

I could see the weed getting wet and knew the party would get rough after that.

Which sounds like a bad line from a bad song.

music scene alone. So, there are a few corny songs but most of them are good. I am an 80's girl and will stand up for it.

KISS is terrible. ALL of their songs. Especially "I wanna rock and roll all night." I hate their music.

I'd suggest you not play anything you consider bad, and don't read the comments.

but being a prog-rock fan, one word that comes up when listening
to some of those songs is "pretentious".

You, sir, are in the majority. I respectfully differ.

I liked disco as soon as it appeared. Needless to say, I've had to listen to many many comments denigrating it. After 42 years, I still like most of it. I like EDM music. Same treatment by many, but I still like it. I really don't care what the majority thinks.

Hey, I'm not a country music fan, but if people love it, who am I to disparage it ? Live and let live.

Also, sorry for some of my past threads disparaging particular songs. I've changed.
