I recently found a CD I had bought to listen to in the car and I am revisiting that wonderful music. I heard it played when I was in Brazil in the 1950s and forgot about it.
Astrud Gilberto had a wonderful voice and I can hear her singing "Girl from Ipanema" to this day...

(1,257 posts)Bossa Nova is seriously one of my favorite styles of music.
It is always so energetic and happy, and times like these we could use some happy sounding tunes.
I have numerous CD's of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the actual "composer" of Girl from Ipanema.
More recently, Ryuichi Sakamoto, once of Yellow Magic Orchestra fame has recorded several albums of Jobim's tunes.
I saw him live at HOB Chicago when he was touring during those releases.
Charlie Byrd, also one of my faves, plays a lot of it and the album mentioned is quote good.
Jazz vibes player Cal Tjader also does many Bossa tunes. He is an awesome vibes artist.
There is a huge variety of players out there, many of which are not well known here in the states.
Latin music has been a huge influence on rock and other popular music, though some may not realize it.
I grew up listening to this stuff in the late 50's and sixties.... it was popular with beatniks and artists back then, and that is what I was raised with.
Check it out!
