Did someone hack my smart phone, or is it less smart than I thought?

I don't use a "smart" phone when I'm in Europe (which is most of the time), but when I'm here in the States (for a few weeks), my top brass insists that I use one. This morning, suddenly, with no warning, all the settings on my"smart" phone turned to Russian. Keyboard, instructions, everything. If I had not known Russian, I would have had to find someone with a similar model so I could find the settings pages to put everything back as it was.

Maybe this was a glitch in the system, in which case, I can be thankful the sudden change was into Russian and not Hindi or Mandarin. If this happened all on its own, my phone may be feeling a little frisky, but I'd hardly call that smart.

On the other hand, if it was some Russian trying to hack in, очень жаль, там, товарищ, a я читаю по-русски (too bad, there, comrade, but I read Russian). If it's Armenian or Farsi next time, I'm in trouble.

Although in this internet age, I guess Pitcairn Island is as close as next door, so I shouldn't rush to judgment.

I'd wonder if it was a warning. It may be benign but I would have to consider that somebody did have access to your phone.

You may want to check with your company or whoever is providing your device and service to see if they have a protocol in place for this. If this happensed with my company phone they would want it back for analysis.

There are definitely some names on the speed dial whose conversations might interest the boys-in-borscht, no matter how seldom I actually use them.

Like you grabbed the face funny with just the correct finger combo to change it via the settings menu at the bottom or some such.

When I put it down, it was still English (US). When I picked it up again, it was all in Russian.

Maybe that portrait of Rasputin I bought was haunted?
