The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFrom the privacy of my truck cab I am calling you people names
no, not YOU DU people - the people here in Florida who see a traffic intersection with no working lights and just cruise right on through because THEY'RE TOO FUCKING STUPID TO BE DRIVING. Light's out? IT'S A FOUR WAY FUCKING STOP! There are hundreds of intersections here without power and normally I wouldn't even know it but I have to actually get to work because people need my support.
Imma be HELLA PISSED if I live through a hurricane just to be taken out by some privileged fuckstain talking on their cell phone and blowing through intersections because they don't know what the fuck they are doing. OR they believe stopping is for us peons.
Thank you for allowing me this vent. Continue with your regularly scheduled kitties. (like Yara Greyjoy here. Actually I think her name is "Cloud" because that's what my granddaughter named her but since it doesn't matter to the cat anyway I'll just keep calling her Yara.)

(12,132 posts)The other one got named Fiona. I was overruled yet again.
She'll always be Yara to me.
Hey remember how I was all excited I got to draft D Johnson in a different league? lol.
So far so good though. 3 leagues, 3 wins. It's a nice start.
True Dough
(17,301 posts)I went 6-2 in my eight leagues (it's too many but I can't say no to a draft). Won a couple of them by a whisker, including our DU league. It was looking like a blowout in my favor for a while but Sam Bradford made things interesting on Monday night.

(12,132 posts)I have Zeke and CJ Anderson and just picked up Kerwynn Williams off waivers from AZ. None of my leagues use an IR spot so I gotta wonder if I should drop DJ at some point. I wish they'd just say they won't play him but I guess it depends on how close they are to playoff contention when he comes back.
I'll be pretty OK I think but man, I sure did want that 1 2 punch.
oh, and DAMN lol. I would need new blood pressure medicine to run 8 leagues 3 is plenty stressful.
True Dough
(17,301 posts)That 6-game suspension looked imminent for a while. All leagues should have at least one IR spot. The DU league has two, by the way.
If you have more injury issues, dropping DJ is going to be hard to avoid.
Sounds like you're having enough blood pressure issues on the road, no need to compound the problem with too many fantasy football leagues. Stay safe out there!

(2,768 posts)It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

And whaaaaaat? It's been many years but I loved Logan's Run. Don't remember this bit in it though. Must be time for a Blu-Ray upgrade. (Or 4K if I can find it).

I need to see this movie again. My wife used to model at the Dallas Apparel Mart, where they shot much of it. Brings back memories.

(5,914 posts)That's where the big climactic ending takes place.
Dallas used to be looked at as being pretty futuristic for its time. I believe it also provides a stand-in for Detroit in the original Robocop.

(12,132 posts)like I saw cruising along this morning. That guy had no damns to give. Top down no shirt rolling along without a care. But at least he stopped at the intersection like us good drivers did.
But I just got a shiny new truck and it ain't in "don't give a damn" status yet.

(6,110 posts)I agree that everyone should proceed with caution, but the absence of working lights does not generally revert to a four-way stop. Yes, if the two streets are roughly equal, then a four way stop (or yield) is appropriate. If the streets are very different (for example, a minor side street with a multi lane through street, the through street has priority. Sort of a flashing red, flashing yellow equivalence.
It still does not mean anyone should be speeding through a disaster zone.
