Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, DeForest Kelly and James Doohan at the unveiling of the shuttle prototype Enterprise
Part of the crew of the television series Star Trek attend the first showing of America's first Space Shuttle, named Enterprise, in Palmdale, California, on September 17, 1976. From left are Leonard Nimoy, George Takei, DeForest Kelly and James Doohan. This is one of 61 photos in the 'History of the Space Shuttle' retrospective image gallery at the Atlantic's In Focus.

(245 posts)My idea of paradise is being on a starship with those crew members and sharing communication duties with Lt Uhura.
You can see the Galaxy and leave of things don't work out ok.

(15,220 posts)Thanks for posting. Some of my favorites right there. Star Trek, the original series, was so far ahead of its time. I was a fan when it was broadcast and I was happy when it finally got the respect that it deserved years later.

(2,050 posts)It's where I learned ( besides from my parents ) that people shouldn't care what color you are, or where you came from.
I remember the black-white person at war with the white black person episode (with Frank Gorshin was it?) the Harry Mudd episode where you see how bad a despot could be, many other episodes showing how the politics and religion and hate and misunderstanding of others were not the norm.
The norm was the crew of the Enterprise who solved problems forced upon them by others, it was an early blueprint on how you should see things to a young boy.
The show taught me more about the world than school did during those years of my life and I still love it and it's updates to this day.
I saw that another Star Trek show was coming out recently but I can't remember what it's to be about.
You bet I'll watch it.

Probably why I grew up so into computers.
