Kingsman - The Golden Circle movie - spoilers

Last edited Sat Sep 23, 2017, 09:47 PM - Edit history (1)

Solid sequel - great pace - creative twists.

Best part is that the American Statemen had their flaws. Conservative and autocratic. No perfect heroes, Best role twist was the US president - cross between Ronald Reagan/BushII and Trump. Says one thing but the agenda is heinous.

Biggest disappointment was the over reliance on Fox News as our go to news media. Even aired in Sweden! I would think they would push the president's agenda.

Anyway, def go see movie.

I was still in mourning, though, to really embrace the slapstick.

He was basically a secondary character on a Shakespearean level - think Rosencratz and Guildenstern, or Dogsberry...
He certainly relished his part; they apparently let him do his own wirework. - and that final comment about a Backstage Pass is definitely a throwback to the end of the first movie.

On a side note:
Spouse is spending today listening to John Denver on his Pandora channel, which so far as I know, he has never really listened to.
(sipping on his Single Malt Scotch)

And for those who claim it's an anti-feminist movie, as an old-school feminist myself, I've noticed that over the past two movies, Eggsey - the supposedly typical lower-class hoodlum who's learning to be a "gentleman spy", always asks and never assumes or pursues, respects women as equals when it comes to his work, and is secure enough in his manhood to be more concerned about how his actions will affect his personal romantic relationships and asks her if it's okay rather than just indulge in a fling.
And his SO - even though she's not a major "kick ass" spy type player, seems to be secure enough in her herself to just ask for what she wants and not play cutesy "chase me" games - she lets him know where she feels the relationship is, and what she feels is acceptable or not.
Not to mention the lady villain. She'd give every Bond villain a run for his money - and her motives were actually pretty clear. The primary issue with her was the way she went about those motives.

I'd rather be a female character in that comic book world than a lot of other popular genre worlds where the women are basically DiDs and quirky nerd sidekicks.

I liked it. It wasn't deep or high drama, but for what it was, it was a fun and very legitimate follow-on to the first.

In real life Fox News would have been absolutely vicious at the sitting president if he were that big of a jackass and attacking his own citizens. Fox News and the conspiracy theorists would have been painting this as being the democrats' fault and cranking it up way past 11.
