1. It's kind of sweet, really.

They're trying so, so hard to make Aquaman look less silly. I wish them the best.

2. Maybe because I wasn't as big a fan of DC

but, I never really understood the Aquaman hate. Sure his powers aren't as good out of the water, but he's not totally useless.

3. The Superfriends left deep scars

He had a cartoon series in the late 60s that portrayed him as more formidable, even if he wore the same safety orange outfit.

I'm not a diehard follower of him in the comics, though I perceive that they've made him more impressive on the page in recent years. I'm not thrilled that they keep retconning him into higher and higher levels of power, lately turning him into "Superman who can't fly but breathes underwater."

He's taken a darker, semi-misanthropic turn lately, owing to his disgust at our world treating his world like a toilet, so there's some traction to be had there.

Could work out, I suppose, but casting Drogo in the role seems a bit like overcompensation.

Not sure how I feel about the quippy Flash, but Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman kicks so much ass that I'll sit through a whole movie just to see her take down some Parademons.

5. I like that Marvel

has had people on TV and in the movies - Coulson, Nick Fury and another agent of SHIELD whose name I forget. Not sure why we couldn't get Grant Gustin to be The Flash

6. Gustin is definitely a credible Flash

Given the structure of the CW Arrowverse, they'd have to get him to the world where JLA takes place, but they're clearly demonstrated that he can do that.

I'd like a little more overlap between the Netflix Marvel Universe and the MCU. Nothing huge to disrupt the plot, but maybe a quick shot of Iron Man flying overhead, or some reference to the Hulk by name (rather than "the big green guy&quot Still, I won't quibble...

7. DC

has done pretty well casting the heroes on TV - Supergirl, Arrow, Flash...

8. They hit it out of the park with Supergirl.

As I've prattled on about before, the whole trick to playing Supergirl/Superman is in getting both the hero and the secret identity right.

Christopher Reeve did this incomparably.

Melissa Benoit nails it.

Helen Slater? Nope.

Brandon Routh? Not quite, but close.

Henry Cavill? Worst. Clark. Ever.

The Superman guy on Supergirl is pretty solid IMO.

10. My fellow geek coworker and I have discussed the same thing

We love the various Easter eggs throughout the Arrowverse, such as Jay Garrick, The Trickster, and Amanda Pays returning from the original The Flash series. Helen Slater and Dean Cain are Kara's adoptive parents, of course.

In the crossover "Dominators" story arc, Routh mentions that Supergirl "reminds" him of his cousin, a delightful decade- and universe-spanning reference!

especially the "I am your father" line from Mark Hamill. Because Hamill was so much older, my daughter didn't recognize him at first, so the "I am your father" line didn't play as well with her until I told her.

is now saying that the initial films were intentionally dark and that Justice League and later will not be quite so grim because of the rise of the Justice League bringing hope. Not sure if he really planned it that way or if he's trying to excuse the grim/dark nature of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman?

It was the darker nature of BvS that intrigued and entertained me. Let Marvel be Marvel-- popcorn, one-liners, wise-cracking and laughs work really well for that particular franchise. But it's the relentlessly gloomy and austere ambiance of DC that's been precisely what I want from it... it's been (to me) the perfect emotional expansion vehicle of Miller's 1986 Dark Knight.

Now, for all I know DC is currently practicing some type of heretical apostasy in their treatment as per my comic-book friends, but DC is certainly giving me exactly what I want. I'm the first to admit that comic books were never in my wheel-house growing up while all my friends were raised by them, so my expectations for DC are far less canonical, and far more movie-oriented than theirs.

Either way, between this and Last Jedi, my fall and winter movie plans are etched in granite.
