(54,990 posts)green ones are hard and hard to squeeze. better for garnish. when you are hand selecting from a bulk bin, go for the yellow ones with just a couple hard green ones to slice for garnish.

(46,576 posts)Or maybe I use them before they do? They're grown in the Florida Keys.

(54,990 posts)Key limes are the same as Mexican limes, but they may exhibit some variation due to growing conditions.
I have one in a large pot, growing in south east Arizona at 4500 feet.

(14,491 posts)is not a German recipe. The chocolate was invented by a guy whose last name was German. He or most likely his wife came up with the cake recipe to sell the chocolate.

(29,166 posts)to get real Key Lime pie outside of the Florida Keys.
Seriously, there simply aren't that many Key Limes grown in the keys.
I've had Key Lime pie at the Ocean Reef Club on Key Largo... and it was soooo much better than "Key Lime" pie offered elsewhere.
Yes, I know that Key Limes are simply a variety of Limes... along with Persian Limes... but Key Limes grown in the Keys are just different than Key Limes are grown elsewhere (Mexico I understand). Perhaps it is the limestone soil in the Keys... or something else.
On my bucket list is to return to Key Largo and have some more before leaving this fine planet.

(43,085 posts)The worst I believe is in the Keys between Marathon and Key West. It's going to take a while for them to fully recover.

(6,907 posts)key lime pie had a pie crust and meringue topping, not graham cracker crust and cool whip topping.

(16,356 posts)Never been crazy about key lime pie. The pie crust and meringue would help. I once used a pretzel crust and threw in some Tequila and triple sec and called it a Margarita pie. It wasn't bad.
