(46,570 posts)Definitely would love to see overlap with Fear the Walking Dead. At some point, civilization either makes it, or it collapses completely. I see WD ending with at least a chance of regaining civilization.

(56,827 posts)I have no insight on this, is that Rick will sacrifice himself so Carl and maybe a few others make it to some large safe zone type area where maybe they've discovered a vaccine that prevents infection if bitten.

(46,570 posts)It was a scene between Carl and Rick, at first. Carl asks Rick if he can cut off his arm, if he had to. Michonne walks in and gives him a pep talk. Then, she looks at Carl and say, let's go get our army.

(90,740 posts)but guess what creators of the show - It kind of really is about Rick.
herding cats
(19,549 posts)But his time is limited, they've been setting the stage for his death all last season. I just didn't expect them to allude to it in the season opener.
Still, it beat last years season opener by leaps and bounds. I didn't watch it again until the season was almost over after that horrific disaster of a season premiere.
Solly Mack
(90,740 posts)I might binge watch once it is all over but watch it as it comes on because I'm excited? No. I'll be able to let days, weeks go by before I watch.
Sure, everyone dies eventually, but I can't transfer onto Carl what I think/feel about the Rick character because I really don't care if Carl dies or not. Judith, yes - Carl? Not so much.
I simply enjoy the Rick character. I don't have the same feel for Carl. At all.
herding cats
(19,549 posts)FWIW, I'm still not convinced this all means they're killing off Rick so soon. Even if I expect them to within the next season or two, now still seems too rushed. They haven't even come close to fleshing out Carl's character enough to carry the emotional load of the primary protagonist. Same with Maggie, even though she's likable enough, she's just not as interesting as Rick.
Besides, to kill him off when they've been alluding to his demise the entire season opener would be trite. Right?

Solly Mack
(90,740 posts)Negan offers a slim (very) chance of survival. The walkers could easily overwhelm him at this point.

NewJeffCT
(56,827 posts)I had a few problems with the episode. I thought they did a good job building the anticipation of a showdown, but the showdown was kind of unrealistic. All that blasting away by Team Rick and how many people died? One, maybe two? Plus, nobody on Ricks side died despite having to shoot up at The Sanctuary? They were in a fishbowl. And, nobody on Team Negan thought to toss down a few bricks, a grenade, a Molotov cocktail or something explosive? Last years finale showed negan talking to a courtyard full of 100+ guys with guns. Where are all those guys?
Baclava
(12,047 posts)First, Inspirational speeches, then artsy dreamy flashbacks/flash forwards, then more talking with Negan
then really bad 'action scenes'
Why the fuck wouldnt they open fire as soon as Negan walks out the door??? He's like, 30 yards away, they have scoped rifles, he's standing right in front of them in the open, giving another speech.
Why would he even come out to face armed barricaded attackers anyway when he has hundreds or thousands of soldiers to take them out immediately? Where are they? Rick has MAYBE 30 people with him
Why waste thousands of rounds of ammo shooting out fucking windows??????
And Gabriel is a captive because he tried to be a do gooder in saving Gregory who betrayed them....he let him drive away in his own getaway car? WTF?
Completely contrived drama. Could have easily shot Negan and his main men and been done with the "war" right away. They are really, really are terrible at these big gunfights. NO drama, just more stupid.
Aristus
(66,075 posts)The same number of episodes we endured for 'Z-Nation'.
Mrs. Aristus loves zombie stories. I mean, she loves them. So if she gives up on something like a long-running episodic zombie show, it is probably because it added nothing new to the genre. Anyway the 'it's the survivors and not the zombies who are the real monsters' angle goes all the way back to Night Of The Living Dead in 1968.
