back from the Ocala National Forest
a much needed trip but I have a few suggestions to anyone that books ahead and hasn't been there before.
Do not use Loop A of Alexander Springs for your tent set up. You will be close to Rt 455 and the noise of traffic will be very
disconcerting all night...
Do not allow your campsite to be near the shower/restrooms. People use them all night long and you will hear the noises from them.
Do not take your pets (dogs) if you want to go to the spring or fishing holes or anywhere near the day camping areas. You can't do it so you end up sitting in your site with your pet.........all day.
Take firewood. It's cheaper on the outside than the in and no, there isn't that much dead wood near the sites.
At night, use a flashlight if going to the restrooms or just walking around the roads. We saw one copperhead and my dog jumped back from it before we saw it so we don't know if it struck or not. Our dog did not get sick or anything.
Take water, alot of water, bottles of water, water you can drink. Dehydration is a beoch. Ain't nothing like jumping up at 3:27 a.m. to put the rain fly over the tent and getting a cramp in your thigh muscle, nothing at all like that.
Over all, we had a good relaxing trip.. I found a dead branch with a burl on it and have stripped it with my knife and am going to use it for a walking stick as my camping skills progress.
Anyway, camp safe........watch for snakes.............and meet your fellow campers. On good clear nights, watch the stars, there are alot more of them than you realize.

I don't think my wife wants to have her face plastered all over the internet while crawling out of the tent.
I want to live a little longer.
