So I though this might make a fun thread. Just post links to some of your favorite leftist songs/bands. I just thought it might be fun to hear some music with a leftist bent. I'll start us off with one from John Lennon. and the other from a current Band Rise Against. Here is the link:

(6,238 posts)I love this one line from it, "The Tories rant and tear their hair and shout democracy, but the kind the Tories have in mind is not for you or me." Pretty much sums up our current situation.

(32,342 posts)Thank you for the Dick Gaughan suggestion White_wolf. I think he does a version of The Red Flag too, but I can't find the video right now.

(6,238 posts)Replace Thatcherite with Reaginite and it would sum up perfectly what happened here in the 80s.

(8,244 posts)that version of the Red Flag from post number 7. Been listening to that for ages but I never did know who that was singing until yesterday. I had never heard of Dick Gaughan before. But his voice sounded familiar right away, so I looked it up.

The lyrics are from a poem by Roberto Sosa, poet Laureate, Honduras
I entered
into the House of Justice
of my country
and found it to be
a temple
of snake charmers.
Within it
one is like expecting
someone who
does not exist.
Fearsome
lawyers
perfect the day and its blue bite.
Dark judges
speak of purity
with words
that have acquired
the brightness
of a knife. The victims in contained space
measure the terror in one fell swoop.
And all is
consumed
under that feeling of tenderness that money produces.
