Wolff regards Marxism as a critique of capitalism, identifying the now observed failures as the middle class collapses around us. A world of low wages and automation will make us more and more desperate. Detroit is just the start if we don't change our ways.

Maher continues his basic skepticism/cynicism directed towards us ("Never underestimate the stupidity of the American people" is his mantra). Maher believes our basic nature is greed and selfishness, the perfect foil for capitalism. He says we can put checks on the capitalist system, but that's about it. Of course, Bill Maher is one of the elites, so...
