Kathy Griffin reveals lung cancer diagnosis

Comedian Kathy Griffin revealed Monday she has stage-one lung cancer. In an Instagram post, the 60-year-old said she was going to have surgery to have her left lung removed.

Griffin said she has never smoked, and doctors are optimistic that the cancer will be contained to her left lung. She’s hopeful that she will not need chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Griffin said she expects to be “up and running’ in a month or less.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, lung cancer is the third most common cancer in the U.S. The agency also reports that more people die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer.

One at 64, the other at 72. It metastasized into their bones before it was all over. Both gone within 3 months of diagnosis. Eerily similar. Both had been smokers for decades, although Dad quit about six years before his lung tumor was detected.

My sister and I have great genetics on our side!

She was just shy of her 80th birthday, and had smoked but quit a few years before. The strangest cancer diagnosis I’ve ever seen. She had no pain, nothing. Rest In Peace Mom, and Happy Birthday in heaven.
