A great crime drama gem. Matthau puts on his frumpy, dedicated cop persona. Shaw is always great value as the villain. Supporting cast are standouts, too.

Highly recommended over the remake. One is tempted to ask, why remake it when there's this version? Then again, since when has Hollywood had any original imagination.

Oh well. Watch this one. It's a great flick.
