The villain is played by Otto Kruger. No surprise there and that was just the point Hitch tried to explain to the studio heads.

Hitchcock wanted a pleasant good natured Grandfather type like Harry Davenport or Harry Carey, Sr. who nobody would ever suspect was the Nazi spy. But the suits won out. "Actors who play villains play the villains."
