One Rite to rule them all.

I've always been obsessed with Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, devouring every performance of it I can find.

I have my faves - I enjoy what Barenboim did with CSO, Gergiev's and Solti's. But so far, the one that grips me the most is Tilson Thomas' interpretation.

but haven't heard the recording. Amazing....

3. Salonen's interpretation really punches you in the gut.

I love the intensity. ...and both he and Thomas emphasize percussion beautifully. Tilson edges out all for me because he is so so attuned to the piece, he unearths sections that get lost or not heard in other interpretations.

4. I heard it on my car radio one day

and I had to sit in a parking lot and listen until it was over to find out who the orchestra and conductor were, because it was so good and so intense that I absolutely had to have the recording. I don't know the Thomas one but I'll try to find a sample.

5. check his work with San Francisco Symphony.

edit: his Stravinsky work is just incredible to me.

He also recently did his farewell tour with SFS. Coincidentally, Salonen will succeed him as musical director.

6. I just listened to parts of your Youtube links - great performance!

Very exciting. It's hard to believe The Rite of Spring is over 100 years old.
