If I was intimidated by music, I wouldn't have become a fan of Wagnerian opera at age 13.

(on evenings and weekends) in the style of the big band era of the 30s and 40s.

I grew up surrounded by music. The first time my folks took me to a classical concert they were embarrassed because my 6-year old self stood up on the seat of the concert hall and enthusiastically conducted the orchestra in Beethoven's 6th (still my favorite). And to this day while listening to classical music I will often grab the orchestral score and read along with the music. It's amazing how much more you can get out of the music when you can watch the various parts weaving in and out of the mix.

I'm more into composers and singers that were/are actually alive during my lifetime.
