Glorious John conducting Elgar's Enigma Variations.

I am a huge fan of John Barbirolli. He was a cellist before he ascended to the top of the music director world. Probably amongst his most famous interpretations were his Mahler Symphonies, and the Elgar Cello Concerto with Jacqueline du Pre.

But here's another Elgar, the Enigma Variations. One British music critic cited this performance as the best due to the "tummy wubble" from the organ in the final variation. I agree. This entire performance gives me all sorts of tummy wubble, especially the organ in the last variation. And there's never been a better Nimrod variation interpretation. Ones heart just melts.

Lost too damned soon, Glorious John Barbirolli.
