where Norton asked Elton why he didn’t sing like an Englishman and Elton told him something like, “Fuck off you sod, how would that work?” It was funny because what Elton did was straight through American blues.

I didn't really get into him till my mid 30's. Although, I grew up with him on the radio. But I really got into him, like buying vinyl into him, later in life. Was singing along one day in the car and realized as we were doing the same trills and emphasizing the same syllables, just what a huge influence on me he'd been. I'd been singing 20 years at that point when I realized just what an affect he had on me. Makes sense, early to mid 70's you couldn't turn the station without coming across Elton. He was one of the first I ever sang to. I guess dem roots run deep yeah?
