The Kinks are an odd band.
Ray and Dave Davies are the only constant presence so when I say the Kinks well, I'm really just talking about those 2 guys.
Fantastic songwriters:
They had a very Pop top 40 sensibility on much of their discography - You mentioned Lola, their biggest hit in America and that is a good example. There are plenty more tho... You probably heard this tune but didn't realize that it was the Kinks:
But they were also proto punk and heavy metal precursors who occasionally just carpet bombed songs with guitar noise:
They also just had happy sounding jams about nonsense and innuendo
