Mrs. Glam played this for tonite. And she laughed (cruel women that she is ). She knows what this version does to me. When Ray kicks in? I get chills and I literally cry. There's so much emotion it just breaks me up. RIP Ray & Brother Leon. Hope y'all dig it. And I hope y'all don't feel it like I do.

(11,794 posts)The guitar is gorgeous! Absolutely beautiful playing. But, as I'm an American white male, obviously, I don't speak Spanish (yet. It's on my to do list). And please understand, that I'm so not saying SPEAK ENGLISH, YOU'RE IN 'MURICA! I dog this, I'm just not getting the full emotional quality of it dig? But I do enjoy it so thanks for posting.

(43,889 posts)Ours lasted
As long as two pieces of ice last
In a scotch on the rocks
Instead of pretending
Or, throwing a glass out of jealousy
She laughed
Suddenly I saw myself
Like nobody's dog
Barking, at the gates of heaven
She left me with a dresser full of grievances,
Honey on my lips
And frost on my hair
They were right
My lovers who said
that, before
I was the bad guy
With a single exception
This time
I wanted to try to love her
And she did not
So she left
and left my heart
a skeleton
And on my knees
From the taxi
And, with fanfare
She threw me two kisses
One per cheek
And I returned
To the curse
Of a drawer without her clothes
To perdition
In the cocktail bars
To the Cinderellas
for hire in the corners
And, to bottles
Of fine sherry
Picking up the tab
For soulless people
Who lose their mind
With cocaine
Going crazy,
wasting
money and life
I went, little by little,
giving for lost.
This despite that I,
so as not to burden
her with flowers,
so as not to besiege her
with my anthology
of cold sheets
and empty bedrooms,
not to buy her back
with costume jewelry,
nor be the martyr
that goes, in pilgrimage,
with the brotherhood
of the Holy Reproach,
I loved her so much,
that, I took, to learn
to forget her, nineteen days
and five hundred nights.
She said hello and goodbye,
and, the door slam, rang out
like a question mark,
I suspect that, well,
Cupid avenged himself, through oblivion,
of me.
I do not ask for forgiveness,
What for? If she forgives me
it's because she does not care anymore ...
she always had her nose up too high,
her tongue too sharp
and her skirt too short.
She abandoned me,
like you abandon
old shoes,
shattered my eye glasses
from afar,
pulled out of the mirror
her living portrait,
and, I went, on such a rampage,
through alleys
of gambling and wine,
that, yesterday, the bouncer,
kicked me out of the casino
of Torrelodones.
What a pity,
But now I would reject even the Holy Sacrament,
from her the very moment
that she sent it to me.
Lo nuestro duró
Lo que duran dos peces de hielo
En un güisqui on the rocks
En vez de fingir
O, estrellarme una copa de celos
Le dio por reír
De pronto me vi
Como un perro de nadie
Ladrando, a las puertas del cielo
Me dejó un neceser con agravios
La miel en los labios
Y escarcha en el pelo
Tenían razón
Mis amantes
En eso de que, antes
El malo era yo
Con una excepción
Esta vez
Yo quería quererla querer
Y ella no
Así que se fue
Me dejó el corazón
En los huesos
Y yo de rodillas
Desde el taxi
Y, haciendo un exceso
Me tiró dos besos
Uno por mejilla
Y regresé
A la maldición
Del cajón sin su ropa
A la perdición
De los bares de copas
A las cenicientas
De saldo y esquina
Y, por esas ventas
Del fino laina
Pagando las cuentas
De gente sin alma
Que pierde la calma
Con la cocaína
Volviéndome loco,
derrochando
la bolsa y la vida
la fui, poco a poco,
dando por perdida.
Y eso que yo,
para no agobiar con
flores a María,
para no asediarla
con mi antología
de sábanas frías
y alcobas vacías,
para no comprarla
con bisutería,
ni ser el fantoche
que va, en romería,
con la cofradía
del Santo Reproche,
tanto la quería,
que, tardé, en aprender
a olvidarla, diecinueve días
y quinientas noches.
Dijo hola y adiós,
y, el portazo, sonó
como un signo de interrogación,
sospecho que, así,
se vengaba, a través del olvido,
Cupido de mí.
No pido perdón,
¿para qué? si me va a perdonar
porque ya no le importa...
siempre tuvo la frente muy alta,
la lengua muy larga
y la falda muy corta.
Me abandonó,
como se abandonan
los zapatos viejos,
destrozó el cristal
de mis gafas de lejos,
sacó del espejo
su vivo retrato,
y, fui, tan torero,
por los callejones
del juego y el vino,
que, ayer, el portero,
me echó del casino
de Torrelodones.
Qué pena tan grande,
negaría el Santo Sacramento,
en el mismo momento
que ella me lo mande.

(33,643 posts)Live from Slane Castle", I'm telling you ... just buy the freaking DVD (or Blu-Ray if they have one out).
It's at the very end of what was really a 'come back' tour at the time , they played the Super Bowl (and killed it) right around this time, and they played this (cheap for the fans) show at the very end, when they triumphantly returned to Dublin ... and it's 250K peeps, just rocking start to finish.
If you're as much a fan/nerd as me, you'll likely remember this one from their debut 'Boy' ... I've seen 'em 8 times, going back to 1984, and NO OTHER time have they ever played this one ... their first single, even before I Will Follow. The interlude at 3:00, esp. knowing Bono's dad was laid to rest just days before ... it's just really moving. I love Larry's drumming in this song, too ... dude just never get's lazy and rides the high-hat or taps a cymbal ... he freaking POUNDS it, always.
This show was really a special night, with TONS of amazing renditions. Elevation, Kite, Walk On, and Sunday Bloody Sunday are other highlights ... but for now ... Out of Control ...

Buckley's greatest masterpiece (imho) ... the last few minutes ... are just GODLIKE.
it's never over ...
forgive me for adding another version ... they're both fantastic ... but this one is absolutely ridiculous ... helps you can see him do it so freakishly effortlessly
RIP Jeff, we still miss you Brother

Thanks for the link!
I'm a U2 fan, as well, and enjoyed your posts above. I saw them once in 1987, when I was 12. Mom took me because she is the best. We went to lots of concerts when I was young- Michael Jackson, Prince, Pink Floyd in '88, and many others. Then she set me loose once I hit high school (but she still joined us to see Robert Plant more than once, lol!) She's awesome. Anyhooo... it was raining, and Bono slipped and dislocated his shoulder. He came back out after intermission in a sling. The show was shortened but still great. I'll never forget everyone singing 40 all the way from the stadium to the Metro, and while we were packed like sardines on the escalators down.
A few years later, some friends and I camped out for ZooTV tickets. When I got home, I saw footage on Entertainment Tonight of the show the night before in LA. Saw Bono wearing a silver cowboy suit and hat was like, "Oh, hell no." I even-traded my tickets with a friend for Faith No More/Guns N Roses/Metallica tickets.
Metallica did kick ass, and it's the only time I've seen them, but it's still one of my biggest regrets.
I'm taking another dammit.
