The song became a hit in late 1966 and early 1967, reaching number one in Australia and number three in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it was the Seekers' highest charting single, reaching number one on the Cash Box Top 100. "Georgy Girl" reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100, I'm a Believer by The Monkees, kept the song from number one.[1] The song US success prompted the Seekers' British album Come the Day to be retitled Georgy Girl for its American release.

(889 posts)Many years ago, I was stopped in the hallway of my apartment building by a fellow tenant. He asked me if I had heard any strange noises from the night before. I told him that I did not hear any such noises.
But I knew exactly what he was talking about! The night before, I had three beers in me. And I was singing out loud to my Seekers "All Bound For Morningtown" album.
(Please do not tell the landlord.)

(9,696 posts)Sound asleep on the couch across the room, she woke up and walked over to my chair right after I hit play on the original version. Soon as the song ended, she walked back to her spot on the couch and went back to sleep!
Thanks for posting, I loved this song as a kid but never knew more about who sang it. Her voice is wonderful!

(42,862 posts)What a great reaction! Maybe she was responding to the high-pitched whistling? Or it's probably that she just likes upbeat, happy and optimistic tunes too!

(9,696 posts)Mischief (that's her name) was quite the songstress in her youth, her totem human is Joan Jett.

(9,696 posts)The original version is the only one I was familiar with. The movie lyrics are so critical, so awful. "Now that you're no longer on the shelf?" yikes, those didn't age well.
The oroiginal version sounds much better.
Thanks for posting.
