Champaign-Urbana and Carbondale Illinois many times during my 4 years at U of I. It was always full of college students, riding south from Chicago, and north from Southern Illinois, or vice-versa. Southern Illinois University was in Carbondale, so back and forth on the Illinois Central we all went.

Steve Goodman was a good friend of mine at U of I, my freshman year. He dropped out after that first year and went back to Chicago to really start his career writing and singing the Blues. He was a great guy, so talented, smart, funny....RIP too soon.

In fact, I was reluctant to click for fear it would trigger thoughts of taking a steaming trump. As it turned out, I must finally be getting over it because it was great to hear this extended version. Thanx for posting.

Some years ago, about the time the heirs of the songwriter would have inherited the copyright, it got heavy rotation in a commercial for the laxative. Actually, not the whole song, just the refrain "good morning America" sung over & over as some septuagenarian flung open a window with a broad smile, knowing he or she would soon be successful in pinching a loaf. The background melody continued to play throughout the spot.

I still haven't forgiven The Cowsils for selling out to Big Moo.
