My dad was a big wheel with a social club in our city of 70k. A promoter wanted to use the skating rink (covered, but not indoor) in the summers to run 4 band bills on Monday nights.
City wouldn't let him unless he was partnering with a local group that included charity in their activities.
So, dad stepped up. Good thing for us was back stage passes, every Monday night for 3 years.
Rufus played twice a summer all 3 years. Even after this song broke big. Of course, they only lived 35 miles away so it was convenient for them too.
Other bands that were at least yearly were Blue Oyster Cult, Black Oak Arkansas, Blood rock, Cactus, Rare Earth, Ides of March, REO, Head East, and more.
We got to meet everyone!
Folks in Rufus were fantastic. All really sociable and friendly. Each time they rolled through, they remembered us, too. Same with BOC. They were some great people too!
