Late nite drunken music fest! 6 The late, great Shannon Hoon

One of the most underrated rock n roll singers of all time. Such a beautiful voice. Fantastic tone, amazing control, and an interstellar range. I'm in awe just as much today as when the first time my ears were blessed. Rest in peace, brother. Rest in peace....

Yeah man, his death was tragic. What a loss of a great voice. Glamrock Feb 2017 #2

I think the biggest reason I didn't get into Nirvana was because of Kurt's singing abilities. Glamrock Feb 2017 #4

I agree, Shannon Hoon's voice is extremely underrated of the early/mid 90's "grunge" bands. His unique voice touched something within the soul of that musical movement. His tragic death was, sadly, another notch on the wall for the power of drug dependency.

And great lyricist. I'm a Singer myself. Cut my teeth in the Chicago hair band scene. Grunge came along, I dropped acid for the first time and drifted into the Black Crowes. Which pushed me further back to Humble Pie, The Faces, Zeppelin, Free/Bad Co. The creme de la creme for rock n roll singers. But I always loved Shannon. Such a unique voice. The world lost a brilliant talent. One of the reasons I never fucked around with hard drugs. I was more interested in living than securing bragging rights.....

P. S. Yeah mid 40's. 10 #'s heavier and just as handsome.!

That should prove I'm a rock n roll front man.

You've got me by a couple years. I came to grunge exactly the opposite way. I love the harder bands of the 70's and as a teenager branched out into punk. My parents were EXTREMELY liberal when it came to music and allowed a ton of stuff into the house that my friends parents would have balked at. My dad took me to a Nashville record shop, circa 1990, called "Lucy's". I told the guys there what I liked and they handed me a couple of Sub Pop albums that were hot at the time. One of those albums was "Bleach" by Nirvana. The sound was so different and so powerful I immediately tried to mimic the sounds on my Fender Tele...my closest friends thought that album was trash until "Smells Like Teen Spirit" took over the charts! Still have that album and wouldn't trade it for the world!

I don't mean that as an insult. I just don't have better words. I'm half through a bottle o 92 proof rum. But he was no Shannon Hoon, or Chris Cornel, or Andrew Wood for that matter. Nah mean? I was completely turned off by most 90's music because everybody was trying to sound like Kurt and Eddie. Doesn't mean I didn't appreciate the contribution this bands (Nirvana n Pearl Jam) made. Just didn't want to sing like that and I was a pretty happy dude with very little angst. Decent childhood, grew up in decent neighborhood. Never got in a fight until I was 19. I was born in the wrong era. Had more of a David Lee Roth kinda outlook. You know, who's she and when's the next party. True story: Party at my apartment early 90's. Smells like teen spirit comes on Headbangers ball. Drummer calls a band meeting right then. WTF? Okay. Crawl to bedroom. I've seen the future. We need to start mimicking that. I quit two weeks later. Had to be true to myself. 2 of them dudes ended up starting Disturbed. Good for them. I got no regrets. It'd be great to be a millionaire sure. But it'd be hell to play music I'm not into. I could be successful, but I will never let singing be a job instead of a passion. Guess I'm a fool.

Plus I never do monkey noises like that dude.
