Smithsonian has an article this week about James Brown, and it begins...

"James Brown always knew his measure. He thought very highly of his favorite person, James Brown...

Asked how he survived his earliest years, when he was penniless and raised in a brothel, Brown explained, “I made it because I believed I’d make it.” When asked why he still performed into retirement age, “I don’t do it for the show. I do it for the feeling of humanity.”
