Born in 1947, in Mexico, his family moved to San Francisco in '66. He played violin as a little five-year-old, and guitar by age eight. His father was a mariachi band member and trained young Carlos. Though he may not state it, he believes LSD may have fostered his most creative period. Carlos was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame in 1998 as was his band.

Often ranked as one of the top guitarists of all time, his music drew me in to fall into love with Latin soul, or whatever else you want to call his music. A BIG fan since 1970.

Thanks!

I missed him live, but he wasn't on the venues in my area which is strange. I would have noticed.

My little brother who lived in Miami when young used to sing 'oye como va' to tease me. I've liked Carlos Santana since c. 1970 as well.

The original studio version is still the best...may I present INCIDENT AT NESHABUR

So much going on in this instrumental (Just like your "Soul.." OP.) I am pretty sure I have listened to the original vinyl until it wore out, and elsewhere thereafter thousands of times. It is a statement of my youth, love it, and may I never grow old!
